Cheetahs

Makamisa

This is the cheetah we see the most often. He is a big male and quite distinctive because of his drooping bottom lip, which is how he got his name 'Makamisa' which means exactly this in the Shangaan language. He prefers to frequent the southern parts of the concession around Savanna as this is where the most clearings occur which provides him with ideal hunting conditions. There are also numerous large termite mounds which give him great vantage points from which to scan the landscape for potential prey.

Tuesday

This is a male who we do not see quite as often as Makamisa, but when he has arrived in the past it has frequently been on a Tuesday, hence his name. The two cheetahs are not normally seen in the area on the same day but when they are it is Tuesday who avoids Makamisa.
